Rooftop Systems

What Are Rooftop Systems & How Do They Work?

Packaged Rooftop units are a type of HVAC system that deliver heating and cooling capabilities all from one compact unit installed on the roof of a building or a ground mounted pad or pedestal. Similar to traditional heating and cooling systems, a rooftop system is connected to the building’s duct work. As air passes from the rooftop environment through the system, it is filtered for contaminants and then passed through a heat exchanger or coils (in colder temperatures) or cooling coils (in warmer temperatures). A fan on the rooftop unit circulates the air through the ducts of the building.

Rooftop units come in a variety of configurations to meet your individual needs. So regardless of your building’s unique specifications, energy-efficiency goals, or power source (gas, electric, heat pump, DX cooling with electric heat, etc.), Modular Comfort Systems can customize a rooftop unit that will work for you.

Applications

Rooftops units are convenient and versatile, with seemingly endless industrial and commercial applications — from large factories and manufacturing facilities to school buildings, restaurants, corner stores, and small office buildings. Since these compact units are placed outside the building envelope, they help customers save indoor space and avoid excess noise. Rooftop units can be fairly generic or highly customized to suit your particular application. It is essential to determine what needs your facility may have and work through them with your contractor prior to purchasing an “off the shelf” unit.
